Like a flash of lightning between the eyes, it hits him;

as if a movie reel, four esoteric symbols flicker clearly in his mind's eye.

The air, moving in mysterious ways, seems to emanate colored bubbles as he slowly, gracefully sweeps his hand through the crisp, refreshing mountain air.

The man gasps.

Realizing he'd finally re-discovered a method by which Buddha and Jesus healed -- until then lost to the sands of time -- Mikao Usui slowly yet purposefully sits up on the hard place upon which he has been intensely meditating and fasting for a period of twenty-one days on the temple grounds atop Mount Kurama (Kurama-yama)..

Usui Reiki Ryōhō 臼井靈氣倆 (Usui Spiritual Energy Healing Method) is a Japanese system of stress-reduction and hands-on healing developed by Dr. Mikao Usui of Japan in the early 1900s.

Based on his studies of many energy systems, including esoteric Tendai Buddhism (Mikkyo) since youth and strengthened during an intense enlightenment experience while doing meditation during a 21-day fast upon Mt. Kurama — where the air "moved in mysterious ways" and further awakened his healing abilities — Reiki is now openly taught and practiced outside of Japan, thanks in large part to the efforts of a Hawaiian-born Reiki Master of Japanese ancestry, Hawayo Takata.

Reiki works on the principle that all is energy, and that life energy (Japanese: ki / Chinese: chi) from a spiritual source enters your body through an energy point called a chakra, then flows along pathways called meridians, passing through and being warmed by a point called your hara and from there animating and nourishing your vital organs and tissues. Blocked or stagnant energy due to conscious and subconscious thoughts, speech, actions and environmental factors often first (or simultaneously) manifests itself in this subtle energy system before becoming physical and/or emotional.

These imbalances can be dissolved through Reiki treatment, wherein the Practitioner simply acts as a channel for the Reiki energy by focusing these energies through the palms as they are placed or held directly over the client's predefined energy points, or where imbalance is intuitively sensed to aid in relaxation, and synergistically, healing. Reiki is complementary to, and never interferes with, standard health care.

Westernized Reiki diverges from the Japanese in that it is more methodical and contains the use of symbolism, whereas the Japanese is intuitive and emphasizes personal ('highest ki') energy-building exercises and spiritual development. Nevertheless, both have the same purpose and generally remain true to Usui’s wishes — that Reiki be accessible to all, notwithstanding religious predilection! I am trained and certified in both varieties for your choosing.

Treatments (Cost: $25 for 30 minutes) are usually priced at rates comparable to a massage locally, but I believe in not only offering a high standard of treatment and personalization, but excellent rates, as well!

Individuals new to Reiki are warmly encouraged to experience a FREE, 15-minute 'teaser' treatment that allows you to feel the energy and benefits for yourself!

Classes* for Reiki I ($125), II ($250) and III [Shinpiden/Master] ($500) are held per request and not only fully teach the principles and methods of using Reiki, but your energy channels will also be cleared and enhanced at each level, thus empowering (attuning) you to the Reiki energy. Substantial discounts may apply for genuinely devoted students or those with financial hardship; please inquire.

* classes may count toward CEUs required of Doctors, Nurses, etc.
